So Christmas in Virginia was a stand-alone holiday, though it lasted for twelve days, from December 25 through January 6. New Year’s Day came two months later.

Featured Events: Watch out for Haitian Disaster Relief Scams
On the heals of the disastrous earthquake in Haiti, the scam artists will be out in force trying to get your money. One of the best ways to give to valid, honest, efficient and experienced disaster relief efforts is to give through your church's local or national disaster relief organization.
Why give money to charities that that you don't know who contact you and solicit funds unless you spend time to check them out. Even then, your contributions may not go where you intend. Even the American Red Cross, for instance, has been known to divert disaster relief contributions to programs other than to which the giver intended the gift to go.
Two of the best organizations with long histories of direct action disaster relief is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Disaster Response and the Lutheran World Relief. Lutheran World Relief was already active in Haiti working on drinking water projects before the earthquake struck. Its offices and staff survived the damage and already providing direct assistance.
You can give to these organizations locally by sending cash contributions to Living Water Lutheran Church, PO Box 818, Kilmarnock VA 22482, or stopping by the church at 83 Bluff Point Road, or sending contributions directly to these disaster relief organizations via their websites. One hundred percent of your donation will go directly to Haitian relief efforts.
